![]() Yeah, if you don't need connectivity you can get the cheaper one! The connectivity wasn't the reason I like the 27CG over the 25G. ![]() I think that's the price/performance leader. They also have the red version without indirect measurement for $90. A little more than you wanted, but you can give it a try and take it back if you don't like it. HOWEVER, if you buy the non-lithium version they will give you the lithium battery for free, as long as you checkout with it at the same time. I've had Milwaukee tape measures be that much off at 16' (Stanley FTW).ĮDIT: I was curious and I just looked at Lowes and they have the GLM165-27CG (the green one) for $170, and the 27CGL (same but includes rechargeable battery) for $200. I used to not trust lasers until I used mine a few times and found the quality ones to be less than 1/16" off. But when you get into more complex models, you learn to use the features you use and ignore the rest because it gets too complex and the manuals pretty much suck. And it uses both regular batteries or a lithium rechargeable pack (or I use eneloops). This one doesn't have the probe but can measure from front, back or center (for tripod use). But standing and measuring the height of something (I just add 5' for holding it in front of me) is way better than guessing. I usually don't use area, I can estimate it in my head faster than messing with the buttons. But it only goes up to 60 ish feet.Įasy enough to use, GLM165 can be had around $70 for the red laser and $110 for the green, and $200 for the higher end green one (CG? CGL?). but Bosch GLM20 can be had at US$40 or less during the holidays. Replaceable batteries is also very simple until you don't have spares. Beyond that it becomes maddening to try and remember the special button pushes and holds. Single button wins ease of use if you only need to do a single measurement from the back and are always measuring the same units (imperial vs metric). I find those settings to be useful as well and best if it can be set quickly rather than having a bunch of settings to go through. These have adjustable "measure from" settings like back, front, probe. Some measurers have a fold out probe so you can measure from the end of the probe down in a channel which might be too narrow for the LDM to fit. And even more are the ones that give you the picture on the screen, it really helps pinpoint long distances.īut again, if you're just going to measure heights indoors where a tape might not be so easy to use (vaulted ceilings, long walls) then save your money. There's no real reason others can't, they just don't put the trigonometry into it. I also like the Bosch models with built in level, because they are the only one I've found that can do single-measurement height calculation. It's so much easier to see the laser outdoors at a distance. ![]() If you want measurements outdoors, I would recommend a Bosch with green laser, you can easily have that around $100-120. If you just want simple measurements indoors, no need to spend more than $50. I have both battery operated and built-in lithium rechargeable ones, which still hold a charge when not used for months. Support available, intuitive, fast, and mine have endured 10 meter drops without major issue. What are you planning to do with it? In almost any case (except the extreme high end) I would recommend a Bosch. ![]() No Amazon affiliate links (they'll be removed by the Automod). No posts promoting crowdfunding projects.
